APPEARANCE:
If I were to tell you about a girl, a Chinese girl, you'd mostly likely assume that she has dark hair, brown eyes, and maybe pale skin (don't those women go nuts over whitening creams?). It wouldn't hurt to guess that she was around 5'2", 110 pounds. You wouldn't be too far off from describing Eva, but then again you wouldn't be too far off from describing several million other Chinese girls.
Of course, she'd butt in and add that her long hair is now really more of brunette shade, thanks to swimming club, and also thanks to swimming club she'd be laughed out of China for her tan skin. It's not so awful that she'd be mistaken for another ethnicity. To be honest, it's not much of a tan at all compared to the real sun worshippers, but it still stings her vanity. She did hold claim to having rather large eyes that looked even bigger in her small-set face. However, that matters little since they're usually half-closed in droopy sleepiness. It may be for the better, as when her eyes are wide open, mischief is inevitably afoot. Had she pointed ears, Eva might make for a decent Puck.
However, something about her almost bland normalcy relative to the say, more original individuals she would encounter in Shibusen nagged at her. Normal was good; don't get her wrong, she liked normal since normal meant being able to just ease on by. She'd never been the type to demand, "Look at me! I know we're all unique, but I'm much more adorably quirkier than you are!" But come on, just look at that madhouse of a school and you know normal is the abnormal.
Then again, perhaps wearing hanfu was the surest way to guarantee that no one would ever take her seriously.
Was it slightly outrageous to wear hanfu in this day and age? Sure. Would she ever try it outside of Shibusen? Of couse not. Eva won't deny that it was a spur-of-the-moment decision, and it might just be one of the most ridiculous she's ever made. It is her way of learning how to adapt to her new environment, her new way of life. This was to be "Shibusen Eva," physically set apart by her appearance from "ordinary Eva," the person she has been for seventeen years of her life before attending the school. It's likely a phase that she'll outgrow once she has embraced being a demon weapon as just another aspect of herself rather than something completely foreign. However, as she is, she is just as likely to keep it up out of habit than anything else.
WEAPON FORM: Chinese great sword (dadao)
Sword length: 37 inches
Blade length: 22 inches
Her weapon form is a sword with a handle about a foot long and a blade that is 22 inches long. The blade has a distinctive curved form, and ends not in a sharp point but in a flat, angular head. It's not a terribly fancy weapon, and is known as an ideal tool for hacking and slashing by troops with minimal training. But how sophisticated does a weapon really need to be if it works just fine with the basics?

DESCRIPTION:
A heavy V-twin power cruiser that clocks in at about 125 horsepower at its peak. It has a fuel capacity of about 3.7 gallons (14L). It's loud, mean, and seats riders like a throne, but all that weight means it's best suited for long-distance riding. True to its name, the bike's engine, tank, wheels, tail and exhaust are fully blacked out, making for a dramatic and ostentatious bike perfect for theobnoxious, drama-loving and causing bold and brassy duo that were instantly drawn to it the moment they spotted it at the Harley dealership.
In the spirit of the grand old American tradition and rite of passage, Eva’s parents initially planned to give the older of the family’s two cars to Eva to congratulate her on her acceptance into Shibusen. (More like letting her trash a car they didn’t care about any longer so that they would have an excuse to buy a new one.) Instead, she negotiated with them to sell it off so that she could pool money together with Rune to purchase a new motorbike. On his side, Rune has funds from working in the various cities that he passed through in the year between leaving his home town and enrolling in Shibusen. He was the type to get into jobs involving assassins, criminals, and the like, turning them in for a reward. Alternatively, he'd also be able to work in jobs ranging from a security guard to a fighting instructor, and even tending to crops thanks to what he's been taught back at his hometown. Their combined funds came just to the $15,000 needed.

KEY ATTRIBUTES:
STRENGTHS:
-Slightly above average athleticism from her years at club swimming, but she's far from being a star athlete in any way.
-Endurance: She was a long distance swimmer, not a sprinter, and has trained to put up with muscle fatigue and general wear and tear from physical exertion.
WEAKNESSES:
-Low physical strength.
-Terrible at thinking on her feet. She needs a lengthy amount of time to deliberate and observe in order to come to a decision, which is very rare to come by in the rush of a battle.
PERSONALITY:
If you asked Eva herself, she'd describe herself as loyal, supportive sidekick who will go on to be her own leading star.
If you ask Eva's mother, she will very willingly nag for hours on her laziness and seeming lack of ambition. Inertia is king, with "an object at rest tends to stay at rest" being the most accurate summation of Eva's generally easy going attitude towards life.
That isn't to say that she utterly lacks any wish to excel. Eva is in no way deficient in having glamorous dreams about lofty achievements. When she isn't dreaming about becoming a renowned weapon, she's wondering about what it would be like to be a successful, wealthy woman. On a particularly good day, the two happen to coincide and she can spend the whole day lazing about and thinking about how eventually she will prove just how much better she is than everyone else around her.
The crux of it really is in her actually getting motivated. On the Ten Steps to Success, she may try to tell you nonchalantly that she's at Step Zero, but watch her carefully and you can see that she's flustered and embarrassed about it. But remember that inertia also involves objects in motion, and when a sufficient stimulus such as a threat to her pride arises, she'll throw off all pretenses of being a slacker. She may cruise through most of her life, but she'll never let you forget what she can achieve, if she decides it is a worthy investment of her time and effort.
Contrary to the casual attitude Eva has towards herself, she holds her friends and any potential Meister in high standards. It almost pains her to see them stumble or fail, and she takes seriously any mistakes they could have taken steps to avoid making. She is fair, and just as she doesn't allow her friends the easy way out, she also pushes herself to not disappoint them. She might try to avoid responsibility, but once it's given to her, you can trust that she won't half-ass any duty. Call her a people-pleaser if you want, but to Eva it's just courtesy and respect.
Though she'd likely never reveal it to anyone, there is another reason for her attending Shibusen beyond having to learn how to control her transformation ability. She more or less just skated by in high school, not really fulfilling her capability to be a top scorer. Had she stayed for her senior year in high school, she very likely would have ended up in a middling college. However, enrolling in Shibusen presented a second chance for her to actually realize her potential and excel academically. The advantage of just having Shibusen on her resume for college and beyond did not escape the notice of Eva or her mother.
Eva adores gossip, and proudly admits that her sense of humor is not so far up her ass as to be unable to find body humor entertaining. She isn't a graceful laugher, but then again how graceful can you really be when you're laughing at fart jokes and sexual innuendos?

HISTORY:
Eva comes from a family line of Demon Weapons, but she is almost embarrassingly under-prepared. Her mother was determined for the children to grow up in a context outside of training and battle, or at least have an established life as a normal individual before attending Shibusen. As a result, Eva knows about her family's Demon Weapon tradition, but as far as she is concerned, it mostly remained a concept far removed from her own life in American suburbia.
She attended public school all throughout her life before Shibusen. Instead of being trained in ancient mystical martial arts she spent most of her off-school hours in piano class, math tutoring, swim club, almost the whole gamut of activities a Tiger Mother can think of. However, she was always reminded that sooner or later she would have to face the Demon Weapon aspect of herself. Though Eva was not expected to devote her life to combat, she would still need to confront and master her abilities before she can return to a normal life, if she were to choose it.
Inevitably, her mother got involved in friendly familial competition. A few months ago, Mrs. Liu started casually mentioning that Cousin So and So already found his weapon form and would soon be shipped off to Shibusen. This cousin was only a few months older, and the quite obvious conclusion for Mrs. Liu was that it was about time for Eva also. The hints continued, in the form of news that Cousin So and So was having a wonderful time at Shibusen and was progressing rapidly. Each of his milestones was announced during dinner time.
Eva being Eva nodded politely at wave after wave, silently assuring herself that when it was time for her (whenever that was), she would surely and effortlessly surpass him in all aspects. She naturally was not really inclined to try for a successful transformation all by her own initiative. Mrs. Liu eventually threatened her, with all the motherly rage she could muster up, that Eva would focus within and try to transform, right at this moment, or she would be reduced to living an Amish existence until she finally could.
To say that Eva was disappointed with her weapon transformation would be an understatement. She had imagined being an elegant weapon, perhaps a long, thin jian like her mother, or something stately like a Chinese spear. No, she was a dadao, so pedestrian that the name was literally "big sword." Her mother reassured her that this was not a bad bargain at all, but her father teased her by immediately launching into the "Dadao March," an old military marching song that glorified its usefulness in beheading enemy troops. Wonderful, she was a weapon traditionally wielded by untrained country hicks, essentially front line fodder. This bode well for her future.
Eva didn't hate her weapon transformation; it just didn't fit with the glamour and fantasy that she had thought it would be. Shibusen would be her initiation into a quite different world, and she felt a similarly drastic change was needed. How the idea of wearing hanfu came to be that solution is not exactly clear. Perhaps it was all the times she watched those Ancient Chinese palace dramas on television with her mother. She'd always been enchanted by the airy, flowing robes, the butterfly sleeves. The qualities just happened to be the exact opposite of her weapon form, enough to placate her sense of vanity. Yes, that was it, that was the real issue. She didn't hate her weapon form at all; her vanity just got in the way. When it came down to it, she was actually quite proud of the dadao heritage.
More info: Hmm, I'm not sure if this is needed or not, but I just wanted to clarify that all throughout, this was written as though from "Eva's point of view." She's meant to be a noob, really, who doesn't have all too clear an idea of what Shibusen and its students are really like. She's lived in suburbia all her life, and any information about Shibusen has been in the form of glorified stories or spook stories from her relatives that are about 5% truth and 95% nonsense.
