"Come on Rei it's getting late..." Geno called into the bedroom from the living room. Rei shouted something back, but Geno was too preoccupied to catch exactly what it was. He tugged at the turned-up collar on his own costume. The flimsy, shoddy material drooped again, refusing to stand up straight. Perfect, he thought. What kind of vampyre has a sagging collar?
The rest of the costume wasn't too bad. A velvet black vest, lightly designed with pattern and shine, contained a white ruffled... something. Oh, what was it called... Geno was stumped. Still, it had... that thing... on the front in, and the black vest and matching pants looked very sharp together. To tie it all together, a flowing cape, red within and black without, hung around his neck, discretely velcro'd to sections of his shoulders. He paced a bit, and listened to his shiny black shoes click-clack across the floor. These things were almost as noisy as tap shoes, but they looked good with the costume and they'd been on hand at the oddities shop the day before, and so Geno had snapped them up.
It was just the day before, after all, that Geno had remembered that All Hallow's Eve was close at hand, and, given DEATH City's penchant for skulls and morbid imagery, Geno figured Halloween would be the most popular holiday in this town. It hadn't been too long, after all, since Shibusen's own Masquerade Ball, which made dressing up and costume play seem even more important.
Geno grew impatient with his foppish collar, and had a quick idea. He strode to counter where a small 'emergency sewing kit' lay. This one had several small spools of thread in different colors, pins, needle, and a few other bits and bobs Geno wasn't entirely familiar with. He fished out a few of the pins and carefully fed them into his collar from the bottom. After adjusting the heights and placement of a few pins, he finally managed to get the collar to stand up straight. Satisfied with his repairs, Geno glanced out the window. The sun was closing in on the horizon, and the streets were already thick with ghosts, witches, and devils of all shapes and sizes. Hopefully, Rei would be ready to go before all the candy was claimed...
