'Allo SoV!
So, one of the things that the staff is constantly batting around is the issue of souls. As anyone who's been here for any length of time knows it's MUCH easier to acquire a hefty sum of Points than it is to earn enough souls to turn a Demon Weapon into a Deathscythe. This, in fact, is one of the tricky parts of any Soul Eater based RP. For witches, Meisters, and other characters just regular Points and what they can buy is enough for character progression...
But if you're a Weapon or Kishin Egg, it's ALL about soul.
With our current system, members are lucky to earn more than one soul per Mission, so progressing a character to Deathscythe or full Kishin is downright impossible. The new system, however, still utilizes Missions as the primary vehicle for earning souls but ups the ante significantly, using a combined buy-and-earn approach.
Buying souls with Points is one of the concepts we batted around for a long time; however, without its own method it simply cheapened souls. I mean, buying your way to Deathscythe kinda runs against the grain, right? So it was decided that soul purchases would be regulated by a "cool down" approach.
In essence, activity in the RP equates to the ability to purchase souls. Every 15 posts, a Weapon or Kishin Egg character will earn a single soul purchase -- this means you can buy one soul in the Emporium. Additionally, Events can now offer soul purchases as well; not all will, but those that do will be well worth it. And if your character takes part in an RP thread that results in major character development for them (or their partner, in the case of Weapons), you can ask the staff to approve that for a soul purchase reward as well.
Purchasing souls isn't cheap: they come at a price tag of 150 Points each. That means you'd be talking about almost 15000 Points to reach Deathscythe (not counting the witch soul, which you HAVE to earn in a Mission). And with opportunities to earn soul purchases so few and far between I know it STILL seems like it'll take forever to reach Deathscythe or full Kishin...
But wait, there's more!
So you've gone through a Mission. Fought your battles, navigated your obstacles, and finally killed the big bad (or something like that). You get one or two souls as reward and the chance to buy however many more your post total has netted you. Pretty slim pickings, eh? But fortunately, you're not done yet.
Because, under the new system, Missions now have ANOTHER automatic reward: bulk soul purchases. While you can normally only earn the right to buy souls one at a time, upon completing a Mission you have earned the right to buy additional souls in large numbers. See the chart below:
Standard Mission: 5 soul purchases
Expert Mission: 10 soul purchases
Elite Mission: 25 soul purchases
Death God Mission: A single unlimited soul purchase (as many as you can / want to buy at one time)[/ul]
While the souls still cost 150 Points apiece, with the rate at which Points can be accrued Deathscythe and Full Kishin are now within reach for able, active members (especially those taking part in Rocton's Sapphire Initiative program).
One important thing should be noted regarding soul purchases. In ALL cases, to maintain story (and make them not seem like "free" souls in-story), please post a brief summary (between three and seven sentences minimum) of how the soul was gained. For Weapon-Meister teams this will typically revolve around hunting and killing a weak Kishin Egg; for Kishin Eggs this will generally be the murder of innocents.
Strong souls, witch souls, and dragon souls CANNOT be bought because of their rarity and the difficulty inherent in acquiring them. Only Kishin and human souls can be purchased. Meisters may use their Points to buy souls for their Weapon(s), but Kishin Eggs must earn all their own souls. When purchasing a soul, please use the format below:
ACQUISITION STORY: (How was / were the soul{s} gained? In a short paragraph sum up how your character gained the soul{s}. Please be believable and consistent with SE and SoV canon.)[/ul]
Also, a question for everyone to consider: should this system be applied retroactively, allowing members soul purchases based on past accomplishments and current post count, or simply start applying the system from this point onwards. Let's get your feedback! And don't forget to vote in the poll -- we value your input!
