RULE #1: REGISTRATION
Shades of Vertigo will NEVER close down registration for any reason other than temporary forum maintenance. We want anyone and everyone who's interested in joining the community to come, register, roleplay, be considered for Full Member status and maybe more!
RULE #2: FUN!
The point of a hobby is to do something you enjoy or, barring that, something you strongly believe in. Shades of Vertigo seeks to encourage the creative energies of its members and not restrict imagination; thus, this is a forum where almost ANYTHING you want to do can be done (within reason).
Want to lead an entire Spartoi squad? Have a secret island fortress from which to plot world domination? Start a new Faction? Step into the shoes of a powerful Deathscythe or fully realized Kishin? YOU CAN!
Oh, and we encourage roleplaying too.
On Shades of Vertigo, virtually everything RP-related is accessible to members who've proven themselves capable roleplayers and good members of the community. Or, as Shinigami says...
RULE #3: NO PORN
There are plenty of places on the Internet to go if you're looking for porn. This isn't one of them. Even if it's Soul Eater related, please do not post ANY hentai or smutfic. Ecchi is fine, 'rated R' is fine, suggestive material is fine; if the SE manga does it we can't very well forbid it on an SE forum. That would just be silly. We do ask members to use their good judgement in regards to such material, however, and also to keep in mind the ProBoards Terms of Service. Please don't post anything that could get us shut down!
RULE #4: BASIC RESPECT
This is one rule that has to be, yet the staff will not be hardline on unless FORCED to. What we ask is to ATTEMPT to be respectful to other members, and to only troll playfully.
If there's someone who absolutely gets under your skin and drives you insane -- despite your best attempts to be reasonable -- let the staff know. Disagreements, if they can't be kept civil, should at LEAST not cross the line into flaming, flame-baiting, and other incendiary behaviors. Cleaning up all that ash is a real pain, trust me.
RULE #5: RP BREAKING
You can consider this the cardinal rule of Shades of Vertigo, and the ONE THING that the Admins will PERSONALLY come down on like a thunderbolt if it ever happens. RP Breaking, for all intents and purposes, is a failure to abide by the basic RP conventions of the forum.
Shades of Vertigo offers its members broad freedom to pursue and enjoy whatever their interests may be, but certain basic concessions are expected of all members. Don't make characters that you know are above your member rank or violate common sense. If a staff member points out a problem with something you've posted, don't be belligerent or demanding with them. Regardless of the RP style being used in a thread, (Open, Closed, or Hybrid,) always show respect for other people's characters. Basically, all we ask is common sense.
Any attempts to blatantly "break" an RP thread and ruin it for those participating will be met with swift, harsh consequences. Members are encouraged to report such behavior to a senior staff member (RP Mod, Global Mod, or Admin) immediately.
Shades of Vertigo is an intermediate-to-elite roleplaying community with a general all-skill-levels Free Roleplay Zone attached to it, not the other way around. If you've made it to Full Member or even Initiate you should have some grasp of what's expected quality wise. True, we all have our off days, writer's block, and occasions where we just don't have the chance to post much -- these are understandable. What's not understandable is putting up a three-sentence post with ramshackle grammar that contributes barely anything to an RP thread.
In the interest of creative freedom SoV doesn't have any minimum requirements for RP posts. Instead, simply know that a good RP post is typically no less than three good, healthy paragraphs long.
Roleplaying generally falls into three overall 'styles', with a handful of subsets: 'Open', 'Closed', and 'Hybrid'. Those styles are described in detail here. As a general rule, unless otherwise stated, the main Soul Eater RP on Shades of Vertigo uses New School Hybrid style. RPs in the Free Roleplay Zone can use whichever style the RPers agree to, or whichever one the RP thread seems to favor. As the FRZ is a "no rules zone", adherence to any Style is not a requirement.
