"This is the place."
He examined the area around him. Quiet. The branches of the trees rustled softly being slowly patted by the gust of wind. Perfect. Even the weather seems to be let up here. The meister looked around his perimeter to see no one. It's likely he'd be undisturbed judging by how the area seemed empty right now. Sai slowly sat down onto the grass, not minding the small audible onomatopoeia from the action. The teen had his legs crossed with both palms on top of each other.
His vision darkened as the eyes closed, cutting out his first of the five senses. With this said... Breathing slowed.
In... And out. In... And out.
Second sense, taste. Shut down. A rather easy one since there is nothing he could taste at the moment. Emotionless and stationary, he continued. Third sense, touch. Not as easy as the last, but... The stationary and comfortable pose taken on helped made it possible at the very least. Hearing, the fourth sense, shut down before smell… With this said, Sai found himself in a void of his own self.
Empty… Dark…
Though the smell of nature still permeated through his nostrils. Proof that he hasn’t completely tackled the concept of meditation to this day. It didn’t matter. This is good enough for now… Slowly, but surely, he rose up the boundaries of his soul perception to the best of his capability.
One. Two. Three… Five… Eight…
Nature’s own inhabitants were also present. Insects of all varying kinds inhabited the perimeter. A trail of ants was already marching along in an organized line like any rugged squad of troopers encumbered with supplies. The bees were lazily buzzing about in the air already attempting to find flowers to obtain nectar for its hive.
The spider already resting on its web was positioned near the center waiting for prey to be snagged upon. All these life signs in the perimeter were busying themselves for their own survival in general. Sai already knew this, after all… Unlike most humans, animals more frequently involved with the Darwinism in their own habitat.
In… and out… His breathing went. Controlled that it was, there was nothing obstructing the pathway. It was this breathing that kept up the soul perception. Stabilizing it than normal with all his focus into it. Relaxation would be another factor for this action.
If one were to be undertaken by any emotional influences, there is absolutely no doubt that the degree of the soul perception would falter a bit. With this said, it comes to mind to the doctrine of the Empty Mind.
”What exactly is the Empty Mind” Sai had wondered in the past as a child.
A state of nothingness when all comes to play. All that you learned. All that have yet to be acquired come up for that one critical moment… That is the Empty Mind. Modern science calls it the Zone for athletes.”
Even now, the meister found it difficult to empty his mind as the name exactly states. The constant reminders from his life of the past, present, and future still cling onto him.
One more time, he breathed in… And out.
Slowly, but surely… The perimeter was starting to expand a little bit. More various insects entered the range. Eventually a plethora of birds and squirrels were included. Each of their wavelengths is similar. The difference and individuality are almost discernable at least.
Judging that he wasn’t able to tell the difference before… It seems that there is progress at the very least. Of course, the range increased as well which was also another plus for the day….
The flood of stimuli from the environment flooded his five senses once his eyes opened, simultaneously reopening the gates to the other senses. Standing up, the teen looked around and noticed the clarity of his senses felt more clearer…
And a bit less stressed at the least with all the damned bills bullrushing towards him like a Charger from Left 4 Dead.
”…Great, now I’m stressed again,” Sai sighed exasperatedly while rubbing the bridge of his nose after remembering his worldly problems.
He stared at a tree for a moment, attempting to collect any thoughts of what else to do in this time period of training…
”…Oh yeah there’s that…”
Memories of the teachings have reminded him about one technique shared by a number of meisters….
Soul Purge.
A wavelength technique known for weaponizing one’s own wavelengths through injecting them directly to an adversary’s soul.
But however in the Ishida’s dogma, the ideas of the soul in comparison to DWMA in general, differs.
The soul is the equivalent to ki, as in life energy. The wavelengths are nothing more than a flow of the said energy. In their point of view, soul perception is nothing more than expanding one’s senses to be sensitive to all life around, in other words harmonizing with nature. That is exactly what Sai has done.
The idea is different, that is true. But the mechanism is similar nevertheless. Pressure points are nothing but outlets for life energy to be expelled according to the doctrine and dogma. It goes without saying that it has some influence on the soul. But that’s a different story.
Right now, the usual soul purge is just a simple ejection of ki in the mindset of the Ishidas. According to their standards, one should learn soul perception to enable their own sense of wavelength and then further strengthen it for better harmony of one self.
As said before, the theories and ideas are different in comparison to DWMA.
Back to the task at hand… Sai stood in front of a near by tree breathing in… Attempting to harmonize his sense of self with his wavelengths…
”…Haa..”
He could feel the brunt of the wavelengths/ki feel surging around his person inside. It was rather difficult to pinpoint and catch the waves rapidly going around. The teen remembered the number of mischarges and painful explosions from failure…
The teen had already been practicing this for five months now before arriving Death City to begin with… But the upgrade in his soul perception… Perhaps it might drill out a better result.
For one last time… He breathed through the nostrils… And then out while at the same time attempting to eject out the wavelength.
PAK!
The meister punched at the tree while the action was taking place. He bit his lip in pain and wrung his hand as if to shake off the pain.
”…Ow,” he mouthed silently and held the hand painfully…
The teen waited for the pain to recede and looked up to see there was a crack on the bark. Not too large, but around a half-foot radius at the least…
A small grin spread on his face as a result…
”…Progress.”
