Nova sat a listened to the ‘friendly’ conversation going on between her partner and Jack. It would have been safe to assume he was going to do something incredibly stupid. But it was also hard to tell what he would do. Even Keeley, his wife, doubted that she’d figured him out. Nor had May. Jack, you take him with a bucket of salt, and more so if need be. The Chakram cold feel Abby’s cold I eyes dart at her every now and then, judging her with a hard distain. Who would have known her partner would cause this behavior from her family. It was like half of them had planned this day, and the other half of them didn’t like it all that much. Sure, she had made a promise to Abby, but Nova had also said that she would still look for her own partner, as you should. Shibusen was about bonding, and her cousin would learn that when the time came.
However, Jack laughed at her Meister reply, patting on the back, smiling brightly. ” I guess we’re not trying hard enough!” Jack turned to September, who carried on eating, trying to ignore his boisterous brother-in-law. ”Our dear Theron here is enjoying himself!” It was clear to see that Jack was purely trying to wind September up, but he just carried on has he had been doing before, mumbling something along the lines of ’I bet he is’. Then a nervous Keeley chipped in. She was almost pitiful. She seemed on edge. She just didn’t want Jack to do something too stupid. After all…she lived with him some way or another. ” Well, that’s what tonight is supposed to be about, right darling?” The woman looked at her husband, looking for his reassurance. Despite how things looked, Jack seemed to pull out the ‘giant softy’ card with Keeley. Unlike Nova’s parents (who, despite being in Shibusen at the same time) had met in school. They pair had been in denial for years, claiming to be ‘just friends’ until it had gone a little…’over-board’ and both agreed that it was time to come to terms with the fact they liked each other a little more than friends did. 6 months later they were married. 9 months later they had a kid. How time seems to fly.
”Of course!” Jack chimed back, making his wife smile a little. Nova sighed, sinking into her chair. She’d eaten everything she had but was now feeling rather sick. She didn’t know if it were nerves or what but she didn’t like it. The Abby nudged her cousin ”Feelin’ Love sick?” Nova batted her away with a flick of her hand. She was not in a good way.
Gale clapped her hands together from the opposite side of the table, bringing up a topic that hadn’t yet been touched on and was further away from anything else and much closer to a normal conversation: ”I’m glad you’ve enjoyed yourself sweety! Oh! And how do you like that ring I assume November gave you? I hope you do, it was made by yours truly!” Gale smiled, looking rather proud of herself, September pouring himself another glass of Champagne. It was hard to think that a tiny woman like Gale could craft something out of metal, but looking at her hands it was a little easier to tell. A craftsman through and through.
Wait…had Gale just said Nova had given him a RING? Around everyone else…Nova’s head hit the table, and Jack just laughed at her. ”BACK IN MY DAY…” Started William from the other end of the table ”PEOPLE COULD GET MARRIED WHENEVER THEY WANTED TO!” and thus began the arguing between the old men once again. Both Nova and her father groaned under their breath. Why, why did they have to bring that up?! One year old Alex laughed, and clapped her tiny hands in amusement. Jess laughed, the little girl sat on her knee, only just looking over the table. ”Aww she getting a sense of humor already!” Nova lifted her head. ”Its not Humor, its abuse!” ”Of course it is.” Nova’s head hit the table again. ”Its Christmas! I can give all the presents I like!” Her voice was muffled and quiet. Nova have been on a rollercoaster tonight, and she just wished it would all stop for a while. People then went back to their own conversations.
”Well, ignore that little interlude…but what do you think?” Gale leaned over slightly. She always liked to know her work was appreciated. Like the rest of the Black and Witchwood family (Witchwood being Jack’s family name). Gale then nudged September ” We’re popular around here, aren’t we?” She chimed with glee. ”Hm? Oh, Oh yeah…” Her partner replied, picking himself up. Unlike Nova, whose head remained where it had been. On the table .

(OOC: Long delayed post AWAY! *"flies" across room*)
”I’m glad you’ve enjoyed yourself sweety! Oh! And how do you like that ring I assume November gave you? I hope you do, it was made by yours truly!”
'Oh no...' Theron thought, mention of the ring setting off warning bells in his brain left and right. If Nova's family (some of them, at least) were this insistent about teasing her about her "relationship" with him then the mention of, of all things, a RING would turn what was already a steady cascade into an avalanche.
And he was right.
”BACK IN MY DAY…PEOPLE COULD GET MARRIED WHENEVER THEY WANTED TO!”
”Well, ignore that little interlude…but what do you think?” Gale mercifully brought the conversation onto more grounded territory before making a playful jab at her husband about 'being popular'. Theron noticed that it didn't help Nova's condition much, though, still face down into the tablecloth.
Gathering his thoughts for a moment and clearing his throat, the young Meister responded. "It's very nice. The craftsmanship is excellent; I can tell you're quite dedicated to your work." With one hand he pulled out the ring where it sat chained around his neck just below his over-shirt and scarf, letting it rest on his palm. "I'm not sure how you knew my birthstone but the setting and cut are wonderful. Thank you very much, Mrs. Black."
He cast a sideways glance at Nova, still trying to figure out what he could do for her. At this rate the poor girl might just die of embarrassment right there on the table, and the thing that bothered him most was, despite racking his brain, he couldn't come up with anything that would smooth over the situation. If she wasn't so miserable...
And there was still that nagging feeling that, when Nova had told him to 'brace yourself'... this wasn't what she meant. That there was more coming.

The woman across from Theron beamed with a smile that wasn't dissimilar to Nova. The two were very similar in regards to both personality and appearance. In fact, Gale looked as if she'd never been happier in her entire life, as if, with those words, Theron had made her the happiest person in Death City that night. Of course, she was more enthusiastic than her Husband, who would find small talk in other peoples conversations, and even began to start a collective of food from the table, should he regain his apatite.
Gale seemed a little too fond of Theron's praise, but it seemed somewhat expected due to her generally bubbly nature. "Ohh, Nova told my your birth month, and as a jeweller the rest is natural. After all, I should know these things, right? Gems are my speciality!" By now everyone had food on their plates, or were at least starting to grab little bits from the various blows and trays that Gale had arranged. In fact, the attention seemed to soften from the two Students because of it. People suddenly realised they were hungry when the food was in front of them, and picking on Nova and Theron became an after thought.
Nova was silent for a few moments while the tension in the air eased slightly; even Abby wasn't paying too much attention to the boy beside her. The Demon Weapon raised her head, and turned to Theron, which was a bit risky given the former events of the night. "Sorry about me. I'm just a little stressed out." She sighed, turning away and picking at the food herself. It seemed that the little Chakram was in need of cheering up, but even Theron knew that was something he couldn't do without being jumped on by the rest of the nutty family.
The Jack made light conversation. "So, Theron, what's Romania like? Never been there myself, but always been a little curious..." For some reason Mays eyes seemed to flicker to Theron for a moment and in that instant it was obvious. She knew, but she could not tell. When Jacks voice rang, Nova had a wholly different reaction, and froze for a moment. Half boiling with rage and annoyance. She just wanted a hug.

"Sorry about me. I'm just a little stressed out."
'It's not hard to see why...' Theron silently thought to himself, giving her a slight nod and sympathetic look to indicate he understood both what she was going through and the predicament they were in. She needed his support, true, but anything overt would just be more fuel for teasing and invite more awkwardness to the table.
"So, Theron, what's Romania like? Never been there myself, but always been a little curious..."
Ah, finally a question he could answer without making things worse! "Well..." He took a moment to compose his thoughts, framing things just so. "The part that I'm from generally tends towards colder, damper climates, but by and large it's quite the beautiful country. It has a little bit of everything: mountains, hills, flat lands, valleys, and the largest undisturbed forests in all of Europe. Compared to some parts of the United States and UK we don't get very much springtime; the year tends to be dominated by the weather of summer and winter, though fall is generally rather temperate. Just for a bit of perspective, a mild day in Death City would generally be considered unusually warm back in Romania."
"The country's blossoming, really; after a bit of a sag following the departure of Communism the economy picked up and became one of the fastest growing in Europe. A fair part of it is tourism; Romania has ancient castles and modern cities often within driving distance of each other, as well as a number of spas and skiing resorts." He shrugged off the next comment nonchalantly, not really wanting to move the conversation in that direction but feeling it was worth a mention. "Of course, there's also some tourism directed east, towards Translyvania. Self-styled vampire hunters and curious thrill-seekers, mostly. I'm not sure it's really worth all the hype, honestly."
