So You Want To Be A
Faction Leader?
The role of Faction Leader on Shades of Vertigo is one replete with power and prestige: you'll command a loyal force of players and characters, have an account with special access privileges, a regular inflow of Points, and the ability to literally re-shape the map in your bid to take over the world!! -- or whatever it is you decide to do with all that power.
Doing the job of a Faction Leader can be lots of fun, yes, but to do it right you'll need to master a few basic procedures and know a few rules. You'll be making liberal use of the Faction Management section to do pretty much everything relating to your Faction, so that's a good place to start. Familiarize yourself with the look and feel of it. Read some of the posts and see how other Faction Leaders operate. This is your classroom, so get ready to learn.
The most important threads you should read are listed below:
Resource Management -- This is where you do stuff. Yeah, it's really that simple.
Faction Purchasing Guide -- Describes what you can buy for your Faction and how.
Territory Control Guide -- The core rulebook for Territory Control actions.
Territory Control Map -- The strategic map of the world. Think of this as the "game board" for Territory Control.

Some important questions you might have are answered below.
Initially, if starting your own, you'll need to build up enough Points for a Base, Hangout, or Lair to make your Headquarters -- every Faction is required to have a Headquarters. As time goes on you'll find that Points are regularly added to your Faction Leader account every two months based on your Faction's Territory holdings and purpose-related rewards from the staff.
[Q] What's the minimum number of people I need in my Faction?
To start a new Faction you need at least four players and for Loyalist characters including yourself and your Faction Leader character. If a player-made Faction drops below three Players the staff will give you one month to recruit more players before your Faction is disbanded.
[Q] What do I do if my Faction's members aren't happy with my leadership? What are my options?
A Faction's members always have the right to call for a vote on the Faction Leader; once a vote is taken it'll be two months before the Faction can vote again. Being voted out doesn't remove you from the Faction; you'll still be in, but as a regular member. The person voted as leader will have their account elevated to Faction Leader status and all the Faction's Points transferred to their account.
[Q] What are my responsibilities as a Faction Leader? My privileges?
A Faction Leader does a lot for and with their Faction. If you're in charge of a 'main' Faction then you'll have limited administration powers in your Faction's War Room including setting and changing the password (will have to ask an Admin to do this) and bumping, sticking, and locking threads and polls. Additionally you'll have the final say in how to use all of your Faction's resources including Points, Territory Bonuses, Minions, Vehicles, and Equipment. You can request that Points from your Faction Leader account go to members who've done good work for the Faction and pay off Freelancers to fight for you. You'll have a strong voice when it comes to decisions of strategy and, if you lead well, possibly be considered a hero by your Faction.
Of course, the job has its duties as well. Within your War Room (or, for player-made Factions, in the Faction Management section) you'll need to keep an updated list of all your Faction's current members and its "mobile resources", namely Minions, Vehicles, and Equipment --the staff will not keep a list for you. Faction Leaders are also the creative leader of their Faction: it's your job to help players if they need help making a character for your Faction, run Missions and regular roleplays for players to take part in, and generally be the voice regarding who your Faction is in-story and what they're like in all regards. You'll also be expected to help your Loyalists fight, both in TC and on Missions, by supporting them with "mobile resources" and Territory Bonuses as you see fit. If a member of your Faction is not following the rules or is creating conflict within the Faction you should talk to them and, if absolutely necessary, remove them from your Faction's roster. Be mindful that your Faction will thrive or wither based on decisions you, as Faction Leader, make. As a word of advice, it would probably be wise to let your Faction's members have a say in the decision making process. Just saying.
[Q] Can I use the Points in my Faction Leader account to buy Abilities and other things for my Faction Leader character? How about other characters?
The answer is yes -- you can use some of those Points to buy Abilities, Equipment, Minions, and Vehicles for your Faction Leader character. Specifically, 15% of each Points distribution may be used for your personal Faction Leader character. You may not, however, use/give these Points for other characters you own, even if they're Loyalists in the Faction.
