Everyone else seemed to be playing around the park, most people were at the basketball courts playing with other students and children on teams. Some others were playing on the playground, mostly the younger children that Alyssa had observed before heading further into the park towards the small forest that resided next to it. She made her way through the forest on a small path that led through it, a few people walked ahead of her and some had strayed from the path to sit under some of the trees. She walked by herself, with her eyes lowered down towards the ground some. Though, occasionally she would look at groups of people sitting together and talking as she walked past them.
She carried a small-medium sized satchel across her chest, it carried some of her school things. Some books, notebooks and a drawing pad. Her arm rested on her bag as she walked. As she walked further she seemed to be alone for the most part and looking around briefly she headed into the trees. She walked through them until she could only see trees on either side of her, where ever she looked. However, looking further ahead she spotted what seemed to be a small pond. She decided to walk a bit further, she hadn't known there was a pond here. She wondered if anyone else knew about it.
As she walked through the trees some more she came to what she had seen. It had indeed been a pond, however not the most beautiful but with a bit of nourishment it could flourish. Walking to the edge of the water she looked down in the water, seeing her reflection for a moment but as she looked past it through the somewhat murky water she saw a small fish. She smiled, at least some life seemed to try and flourish here. She found a perfect spot to sit beneath a tree and stare out at the pond. Setting her bag down, she leaned against the tree. Her red eyes staring off into the horizon. Wrapping her arms around her legs, she rested her head on her knees.
She found herself alone. She tended to isolate herself, partly because since she had come here she wasn't the best at making friends. Too afraid to approach them probably. So she would spend afternoons like this by herself, staring off into some horizon or alone in her small apartment. Her mind wandering. Like, a shadow was cast upon her and she couldn't see the light. Couldn't make friends because she was in the darkness. However, would someone unveil the light? Show her true hearts potential? Only time could tell.

Here in nature's shaded embrace, where time seemed to slow down and sped past in the same sleepy moments, fate seemed to have a stronger gasp of things. Every passing wind that carried the traveling leaves had a voice of its own and it whispered into the ears of any who would listen. Where the sun would peak through the branches, small sections of life could be illuminated going about their daily business. It wasn't unusual for the newly christened Meister of a certain demon minigun to spend his days here in this relaxing environment between his trips from the firing range to the desert. Rocton had found his time in Shibusen a bit more bearable now that he had a partner. A odd and childlike partner, but one nonetheless. While Roc didn't mind spending time with Ashley and his pet bunny Locco every day, he still enjoyed his time in the tranquil woods. Sleeping in such a tranquil area, his breaths seemed to fill his lungs not only with air but with relief from all of his mental troubles. Everyday he was dealing with that silent nagging in the back of his head, nagging him and urging him back towards the existence of a nomad kishin hunter, a life with only the past certain, the future in question, and no homework or teachers to put up with. It was a grand temptation but it was naps like these, on a nice branch of an old tree overlooking a small pond, that banished any thought of running away again from his mind. Soon, he was stirred awake by some unknown force, a tug on his brain to wake up, as if warning that something important was about to happen. He didn't mind, and as he kicked his hanging right leg around to warm up his muscles, he let out a low yawn. "Heavenly" he thought to himself referring to his current situation. He grasped the neck of his usual small guitar and contemplated going back to playing. He eventually decided against ruining the silent quiet of the forest. It wasn't long after he had been pulled from his sleep by unknown forces before a girl walked up to the pond. She had a strange color hair, one Rocton wasn't accustomed to seeing and by her walking stance and slow timid actions, Rocton predicted her to be unsure about something, whether it was where she going or where she was at, he couldn't tell. He observed as she looked at her reflection and he wondered if there was something about herself she didn't like seeing. This thought was further enforced in Rocton's mind as she proceed to grab her legs, hugging them as if she needed to feel some warmth close to her body despite the typically warm and hot weather of Death City. The silent onlooker to the girl's odd ritual puzzled to himself what to do. On one hand he could do nothing and hide among the trees but if he was noticed it would only serve to make him look like a stalker. If he announced himself, he just wasn't sure what to say or how to act. Then an idea came to his head, and his fingers prepped to play a song that Rocton had recently practiced. He started to play it and sing lowly hoping it would serve as an introduction.

For a moment Alyss seemed to sit by herself, lost in her own thoughts as she looked across the surface of the pond she had wandered upon. This place was all so new to her and she hadn't talked to that many people here yet. A nurse called her away from class to check up on how she was doing mentally. She was struggling a bit at first but slowly she would come to terms with how things were and how they were going to be. Alyss didn't really like doctors, as a young child she didn't like going by herself so her mother was always the one to take her. She lowered her head some more into her knees some.
However, that was when her ears heard the at first silent playing of a guitar. The soft hum of the strings however grew as the now song started to play. Picking up her head she looked around, wondering where the sound was coming from. It seemed close, but perhaps the sound was bouncing off of the trees and playing tricks with her. Soft hums of words could be heard as well, though faint over the strumming of the guitar. It was a wonderful sound, calming the girl's mind as the sound blessed her ears as well as her soul.
She continued to listen to the sound of the guitar playing and then stood up learning against the tree she had sat underneath. She wondered if she should find the source of the music, but she felt a bit shy. Perhaps whoever was playing thought he was out here by her or himself and didn't know that they had a listener. She kind of felt the need to thank them, though she wasn't sure why she wanted to. She placed her hand to her chest as the sound seemed to resonate with her soul, entwining the notes with her heart. Using the tree to push herself forward some she stood up straight and started to walk towards the source of the playing, grabbing her satchel as she walked past it.
Navigating around trees for a minute or so, she was unable to find the source of the playing (mind you she didn't bother to look up in the trees). The song soon stopped and her heart felt a bit lonely with the ending of the song. She leaned against a nearby tree and just happened to glance upwards towards the branches of the trees, when she saw a man sitting on a semi low branch with a guitar in his lap. "Oh.." she said softly to herself, then began to speak louder so that he could hear her. "Thank you for the song... it was beautiful," she yelled a bit and felt a bit awkward afterwards. He hadn't been playing for her and probably hadn't known she was here. Her cheeks went a bit red as she lowered her eyes some, but still faced towards him some.

As his fingers glided gleefully string to string, Rocton began to close his eyes and let the beauty of the tones fill his ears with their mesmerizing message. With every passing moment, his voice grew lower and lower to the point that he wasn't even singing and in fact lulling himself back into sleep. Despite this, his fingers continued in their meticulous movement of melody after melody. The music itself traveled through the woods a fair distance in its own magical life and beckoned all who heard to let themselves become entranced.
It was a beautiful song and almost worthy of drowning out the sound of the woods. A few animals even took notice and paused to search for the noise, either to identify and confirm it wasn't a threat, or to partake themselves in it, one could never tell.
When the mysterious girl started to walk around aimlessly, the musician heard the disturbance of her feet cracking the sticks between some of the parts of his song. Right eye cracking open to peek, she was clearly lost and he couldn't help but smile a bit at the commotion being caused. Even if it was cruel, the meister had a long held belief that joy should be taken in even the smallest of things, unless it was schoolwork. Eventually, the sound of her moving around stopped and Rocton was free to come to the close of his song.
His fingers finally stopped, the last tone strung, he put his arms on top of his guitar and laid it down on his lap as his muscles shifted back into motion relenting the loss of a break and letting the arms and the finger do all the work. His right leg started to swing again and his eyes opened lazily.
"Thank you for the song....it was beautiful"
Seemed like he had been found at last but it didn't bother him much. He took a deep breath, even swung his head back until the midnight blue fur felt fedora he was wearing hit the trunk of the tree and looked up at the little sunlight peeking through the leaves as he delved into thought about what to respond. How weird was it for people to meet a old looking shibusen student in a black striped tuxedo playing the guitar up on a tree in the woods, or hanging around deserts at sunsets? He figured it wasn't often and not something everyone would be accustomed to dealing with.
Finally, he closed his eyes and took one last invigorating breath through his nose. Rocton looked down and faced his audience with as kind of a face his slightly battle scarred face could muster. Taking his usual quick analysis, he noted her red cheeks and felt slightly guilty, thinking himself to blame.
"Thanks for listening. Mind if I ask what's troubling you?"

She saw the man's leg swinging some as he sat up in the tree, his guitar idly in his lap. The girl's words reached the older boy, he was a couple feet elevated in the tree but not high enough that she would have to yell really loud. Her voice however, was a bit louder than it needed to be which she noticed right after she said those words to him. Complementing his playing. The older boy looked down at the auburn faired girl, as her eyes trailed up at him almost meeting his. Though, he was a bit too far up for her to fully see his eyes. He seemed to think about how to respond to the girl and she was thinking about leaving because she felt a bit embarrassed. However, she wasn't rude enough to just leave like that especially after making herself known. So she continued to lean against the tree when the man spoke.
He thanked her for listening to his song, though it was not hard to listen in itself but that she had been in the exact spot in the exact moment that he was playing. Without her being there, in the forest near the pond at that moment she would never have been graced by the beautiful, melancholy song that had aligned with her soul for the length of its notes. However, she was a bit struck back by the boy's question. She looked down, placing her hands together in front of her in bashfulness. She had been asked questions like this before, about how she was doing, how she was couping. Not many students knew however of her past, how she got here. Only a few select counselors at the academy knew as well as nurses. They did sort of routine checkups on her to make sure she was couping and adjusting okay to being here. She tried to be optimistic, but mostly she kept things to herself. Told them she was okay, slowly adjusting. Everything would be okay..
Alyss stared at the ground in silence for what seemed to be a prolonged time. Perhaps thinking of how to answer his question, if she should tell him at all. Her heart raced inside her chest as she searched for the proper answer. She didn't like feeling that others pitied her, she got enough of that from the nurses and counselors and teachers. She wanted normal. But, nothing would be normal again. Slowly looking up again she answered, "I-I'm, sort of, new here..." she began, stumbling for what to say. "I guess.. I'm unsure if I'm fit to be a Student here.. a Meister," she continued.
She paused for a bit, biting her lower lip softly. "I don't even have a partner yet..." she finally added, fully looking up at him. She fiddled with her fingers some as she stood there looking up at him. "I-I don't want to seem like a failure..."

The winds of the forests seemed speed up in random increments as the two meisters met and conversed in the secluded grove. The trees and leaves seemed to know what was happening and danced with the wind in excitement.
After he had asked his question, the girl seemed to be stuck in a state of nervous thought. It wasn't something out of place, and Rocton often found this to be the case when he asked people questions, perhaps he was just that out of place that his questions had no clear cut answer. There were a lot of questions that he could have asked, like "What's your name?" or "Nice weather we're having huh?" That would be the normal thing to do. The normal boring uninteresting thing. It was much more preferable to ask harder questions to get a feel for a person before even knowing who they were.
She had a spent a good amount of time looking down and thinking about her response while Rocton simply sat there waiting with his leg slowly moving back and forth but eventually she spoke and the boy met her eyes as she said every word "I-I'm, sort of, new here...I guess.. I'm unsure if I'm fit to be a Student here.. a Meister, I don't even have a partner yet...I-I don't want to seem like a failure..."
In her eyes, the fear and stress could be clearly observed. From the biting of her lip to the fiddling of her fingers, Rocton pondered what to say. It was a familiar situation for him. He'd traveled a lot in his youth and he never really had a problem fitting in. Adapting to a new environment, constantly wasn't hard. He looked up to the light again through the branches again.
"Just let go. All of it. The past is just that, behind you." He paused a moment to take a breath and a sigh. "You're here, in a forest, surrounded by trees in a quiet symphony of peace, and you worry about failing others. Take a breath and open your eyes to it, if even for a moment, just let yourself smile."
As the meister spoke his sage like advice, he thought about his words. Even though he agreed with them completely there was the irony that he himself found it hard to partake in the first three words he had said.

"Just let go."
The young female standing before the older and perhaps wiser Meister listened to his words as he spoke them. She looked up at him almost with sadness in her eyes, worry. She wasn't exactly sure how to let go. The past had been all she had known and now she was here basically all alone, well that was how she felt. So, how could she do as this man told her and to let get of the past and move on with the future, the now? She went to biting her lower lip again in thought, she had a habit of doing that when she was thinking hard about something. To how he knew almost exactly how she was feeling, she wasn't sure. Maybe, it had something to do with Soul Perception as she had been taught in some of her classes.. perhaps he was just very knowledgeable. Maybe, prior and/or current students had gone through the same thing she did? Perhaps not.
Her eyes wandered around her, taking in the scenery. Yes, it was indeed beautiful here. She did enjoy it. It comforted her, but could not make her smile. It had been forever since she had actually smiled, the last time being that evening before her parent's were killed. Her hand went to her chest, as her heart leapt forward some. Beating faster than it normally did. She tried to calm it so that she could think. But, all she ever did was think. And think. Think think. Her thoughts wandered. Wandered to the then and not the now. She then softly spoke the words the other meister had said to her, "Just...let go..." And as they whispered across her lips she for a small moment in time, saw something. Perhaps a small flash of hope. In the trees. In the scenery she was surrounded by. A small wind blew past them, blowing through the branches of the trees and leaves flew through the sky. The wind touched her face and her auburn hair.
Yet, she couldn't smile.
It was like she wouldn't let herself. All that was locked inside of her, her past her memories, her regrets. The fact she would never see her parents again were all hidden deep inside, along with that well-forgotten smile her mother had always loved. Alyss' eyes wandered through the green of the leaves as she tried to look up to the blue sky. "Mother...I don't want to let go of you.." she thought, as silent tears slid down her cheeks. It had been awhile since she had cried, a few months. It was hard to cry when you had been crying for weeks. Like, your tears had become all dried up. But, now that she actually did it seemed that she hadn't been able to because she hadn't known what to cry about anymore. Now, she knew why to cry. Perhaps, even though she didn't want to, this was part of her saying goodbye to her parents.
She looked up to the other meister and asked him, "Will you play me another song? For my parents..?" Her tears had stopped, but small lines of tears remained on her cheeks, the wind slowly drying them. Caressing her face as she stood there. Her soul had calmed some, she then closed her eyes and listened to the wind. The trees. And, faintly the song of birds.

(Not particularly proud of this post but meh) He could see the conflict in her eyes. She was in deep thought again, contemplating from the looks of it. His words must have struck a deep well of emotion because it wasn't too long before she looked down to hide her tears. It wasn't a big mystery that she was crying because her mannerisms up to that point weren't really mysterious. It had reminded the guitar playing meister of a tale his mother had read to him about a small animal lost in a new environment, so confused and sad until it embraced it's new environment and in doing so found it's way home or something that extent. Come to think of it, there was little he remembered from his parents other than the brutal ambush of their safari jeep and their somewhat quick deaths. He hadn't visited the subject in a long time, content on shunning most of it to the back of his mind. There were moments though, like these, where the slightest thing reminded him of a detail, not matter how insignificant, and he tried to recycle the memory of their faces but never could. "Will you play me another song? For my parents..?"Having drifted into his own memories during her moment of weeping, Rocton had failed to notice much else about the girl. Her request though seemed oddly convenient for the moment and after only a slight nod of confirmation, his hands picked up the guitar and knew what song to play. It was a song that he'd played before, his personal favorite. It just seemed....fitting. After the rather brief string of melody, Rocton put his guitar back down and took a rather deep sigh. He figured it was time to talk to her a bit more face to face and after a minute of listening to the sounds of the woods pick up after the song, Rocton picked up his guitar, strapped it around his left shoulder and reached for a satchel with his right arm. It held some minor things, his pistol Sally and a few glass bottle soda drinks he loved to indulge in. Finally satisfied that he had everything, with his things strapped around his shoulders safely, the meister worked his way down by hanging off the branch he was sitting on like a monkey and once his legs were as far down as they could hang, letting go to land with a crouch. After picking up his midnight blue fedora that had fallen off during the jump, he turned around to meet the girl's eyes a bit more closely. "My name's Rocton. Firearms technician partner of demon minigun, Ashley. Mind if I ask your name? He grabbed his hat and pulled it toward his chest as he bowed slightly in respect, one arm on his fedora, the other straight down his side. He may not have been the sensitive emotional kinda guy, but he understood when to not to push for a trivial thing such as a handshake at a time like this.

Alyss' eyes remained for the most part whether or not the man decided to play a song for her or not. However soon the soft rhythm of the guitar strings would grace her ears and she would listen to the melody he played. The song touching her soul, calming it. The song seemed fitting for the most part; his song choice seemed right on cue. With her eyes still closed even as his song ended, the tones and notes remained playing in her mind. She would only be aware of his presence as she heard footsteps land on the ground in front of her. Opening her eyes slowly she'd see the guitarist and meister standing before her.
After picking up his fedora hat he turned towards her to meet her ruby brown orbs, she almost seemed a bit speechless. He produced to introduce himself; asking her name as well. Pulling his hat to his chest he bowed slightly. "Mr. Rocton..." she started to say, being rather formal. "My name is Alyss Hart, Sir," she bowed slightly, a bit awkwardly. Then moved her hand to her cheek trying to be inconspicuous and wiped away what was left of her tears from earlier.
"You play beautifully..." she added, not really sure what to say.

It was an odd feeling to be regarded as such an older person that he really was. Odd, but as the days went by, it became more common for the scarred meister.
"Please, I'm a student at shibusen just the same as you. I'm just a bit more....seasoned...yeah that's a good word I suppose
A few years in servitude shooting other kids, yeah...seasoned is a good word.
"I started playing this thing when I got here actually. They told me it would help....deal with things better. It does I suppose.
2 years of catching up to others on things like geography and history, being treated like an idiot by fellow students and a monster by the teachers, sometimes both by everyone.
"I will tell you though, it's a nice change of pace to see a few more people with doubts about themselves instead of the usual headstrong idiots who think they're gonna become champions of legend of myth that I get to deal with"
At this point, the meister started to notice he was rambling a bit, a direct contradiction to his previous statement of not being an old man, and shut up for a bit to let her speak.
