M O R A N A The setting sun, its eyes beginning to tire, lit the park in a beautiful array of golden and amber hues. The air was cool and crisp, and the cinnamon of late autumn was giving way to the lung-chilling icy breezes of winter. There was only a light dusting of frosty snow on the patches of grass that were scattered about the area, but it was enough to give a nearly Christmas-y feel to the evening. There were sets of swings and some monkey bars lit almost picturesquely against the darkening sky, and a girl sat on one of the swings, gently swaying her legs to and fro in a seemingly careless manner.
It had been nearly a week since Morana Crowe had arrived in Death City. She had been feeling a bit lonely, yes, but aside from her lack of friends as of yet, she was comfortable here. She had begun to make a habit of spending her free time exploring the town, and the park was her favorite place to be at this time of day. It was just about cold enough for the girl to see her breath, and as she exhaled, she observed how the small cloud of air was carried off slightly in the soft wind and dissolved. It was surprisingly quiet in the park tonight. The bustle of the city had settled down by this time, and besides the light squeak of Morana's swing's swaying, the area was practically silent. Not a disturbing sience, thankfully. It was just peaceful.
Morana's hands gripped the metal chains of the swing gently, kind of wishing she had brought some gloves with her on this little excursion. The sun was setting lower still: fighting to stay awake. It brought a small smile to the girl's face, actually, to see the sun's face as it started to doze further into sleep. Soon the bleeding moon would rise with its big smile. Morana decided that she would go home after the sun was gone and the moon had risen. As of now, Morana was living in the student housing area of the school, but she really wanted someone to room with in an apartment soon. Morana was the type of girl who liked to live a little more luxuriously, seeing as she was able to afford it from her savings and from a little help from her dad.
Morana took her cold, dainty hands from the chains of the swing and brushed them on her purple skirt a few times to smooth it out. She didn't mind the cold too much, but she ended up burrowing her hands into her sleeves for some warmth. She leaned her head up towards the evening sky and closed her eyes for a moment, her vibrant teal hair falling against her upper back, looking greener in the orange sunlight.

Boredom was the only thing that seemed to exist on Mals mind as he roamed around. He decided to venture into the park in hopes of finding something to relieve his boredom. There was a slight chill in the air but it failed to bother Mal for he was wearing his traditional hooded jacket that he was rarely without.
The light of the setting sun glared in his eyes as he began to walk towards the swing set. He had decided to go for a little swing while attempting to figure out what to do in this town. Mal had only been in Death City for a few days and for the most part still didn't know his way around the city nor did he know much about what kind of things resided here.
Mal finally had enough of the glare in his eyes and put up his hood so that the top of his hood now blocked his eyes from the glare. Now that his sight had been restored he was caught off guard when he noticed that someone else was already at the swings. He wondered who the girl was but wasn't really that interested in doing the whole "Introduction thing."
His boredom made the decision for him. He sat down on a swing a few swings down from the girl and began swinging as high as he could. He had decided that maybe if the girl talked to him and was annoying he could launch from the swings and make a clean getaway.

M O R A N A Morana opened her eyes and lowered her visage to see the boy arrive at the park, and her first instinct told her to stay put and stay quiet. There was a feeling of slight turmoil that came over her, though. Her peace had been disturbed, disrupted, but that was alright. Maybe some interaction was what the girl needed. She watched the boy in his warm-looking jacket stride over to one of the swings, and she determined that he had indeed noticed her presence, and purposefully chose not to introduce himself. Morana had seen people like him before in high school. Those dark kids that don't really like to talk to anyone and just sit in corners.
The teal-haired girl looked at him, her grey eyes squinting slightly. He seemed to be an interesting-looking fellow, anyway. Morana shuffled her black loafers against the mulch-y sod covering the ground under and around the swingset, wondering if it would be a good idea to approach this dark young man. He seemed to be about her age. Maybe if she just introduced herself, he'd turn out to be pretty cool. Even so, she hesitated. Something about him screamed "I'm not interested" and Morana didn't want to feel rude by interrupting some kind of important inner-reflection or just his wanting to be alone...
It was a bit of a tough decision to make, but the girl prepared herself. This whole day she had been in kind of a lonesome mood, so she had to work up the courage to associate with other humans. She leaned forward on her swing and yelled out to the boy through the cold air. "Hey there! What's up?" Morana's voice was light and airy, but it carried far and strong. She wanted to appear as confident as possible to this guy, because who knows, he could be someone important. She followed up her call with a smile in his direction, and a small wave, trying to be friendly.

Mal continued to swing back and forth lost in his thoughts. He had completely forgotten that there was a girl sitting beside him when she begane to speak.
"Hey there, whats up?"
Mal looked over towards the girl, now reminded of her presence. It was somewhat hard to make out her expression because of the back and forth swinging motion, but he noticed the girl let out a smile and began to wave. "A friendly smile and a enthusiastic wave huh? Not a good sign." Introductions were not even close to Mals thing and a someone enthusiastic about it usually annoyed him.
He began to think of a excuse to jump from the swing and leave but right as a idea had began to form he noticed a chain link beginning to break. As Mal was swinging forward up into the air the chain broke dropping Mal out of the air. Mal quickly reacted, flipping backwards into the air and then landing on his feet.
Feeling cool, this chance was no longer something he could pass up. Mal slowly straightened up into a confident pose and looked towards the girl beside him. "Nothing much, just showing bad luck who's boss," Mal said with his typical cocky half smile on his face.

M O R A N A The girl tried to hold back a laugh as she saw the swing's metal chain break and nearly drop the boy on his ass. What an interesting spectacle he had put on. How unbelievably humorous, actually. It was one of the more amusing things Morana had ever seen someone do by accident, come to think of it. She shook her head a bit, but didn't make too big of a deal of it all.
Morana got up from her swing and walked over to the destroyed public property. "Bad luck indeed. Looks like you're breaking swings to me." The girl folded her arms and smirked. She did have to admit, though, that his recovery was quite impressive. The kid could do backflips. Nice. He did seem a bit pompous, though, so Morana figured it'd be best not to promote any gloating.
Since she had gotten him to speak to her, Morana came right out with the name introductions. "I'm Morana Crowe. I'm new to Death City. I started at Shibusen not too long ago. It's nice to meet you mister..." She let her voice trail off as to let the boy fill in his name. He kind of seemed like he could run away at any moment, and Morana was interested in learning about this guy. She held out a hand to him, offering a trivial "nice to meet you" handshake.

Mal watched as the girl attempted to hold back her laughter. The fact she chose to hold back her laughter instead of flat out mocking him was a step in the right direction in Mals mind.
"Bad luck indeed. Looks like you're breaking swings to me."
Mal let out a slight embarrassed laugh before saying "Nah, just need to lay of the chocolate cake." Mal watched the girl as she crossed her arms. He began to wonder what thoughts were going through her mind but his curiosity was soon replaced with more of the girls words.
"I'm Morana Crowe. I'm new to Death City. I started at Shibusen not too long ago. It's nice to meet you mister..."
Mal was glad to hear he was not the only new person around here. ""It seems I'm not the only new student at Shibusen. I just arrived at the city three days ago. responded Mal as he accepted her hand shake. "My name is Mal Mione." Still grasping Moranas hand he then transformed two of his fingers to his gunfingers Partial transformation. "Otherwise known as the Gunblade." Said Mal still maintained his half smile on his face.

M O R A N A Morana brushed off his chocolate cake comment. What a sense of humor this one had. The boy spoke again as he accepted her handshake, and Morana felt a bit relieved that he was new to Death City as well. That way he couldn't upstage her with any knowledge, and she didn't have to pretend to know anything to avoid being looked upon as an knowledge-less weakling.
See, thoughts like this ran through Morana's mind a lot when she met new people. No matter what, in her head, she always had to be top dog. She could never be upstaged when making a first impression. She rarely let it show as any kind of real aggression, though. Morana wasn't really the verbally violent type, or violent type at all, for that matter.
"Mal Mione, huh—" Morana felt Mal's hand transform and she looked down to see the his first two fingers become a gun barrel. She was pretty startled, and let go of the boy's hand in surprise and stared at his transformed hand. She tried to keep her composure, though. Sometimes she envied how Weapons could do cool partial transformations like that. She had never been this close to a transformed or partially transformed Weapon before, so this was quite the experience. "Mal the Gunblade. So you're a Demon Weapon, then.
She looked back up at Mal's face, put on a confident little smile, and said, "I'm a Meister. It was getting a bit darker now, and the sun was nearly touching the horizon. The bleeding moon had begun to peek out from the opposite side of the sky, and the duel light sources provided an almost eerie lighting to the park.

Mal let out a little smile upon seeing Moranas suprised look. She attempted to keep her composure but Mal could see that she was surprised to see a partial transformation. He then suspected her to be a meister and was not suprised when the girl confirmed his suspension.
"I am indeed a weapon." Mal then reverted his hand back to its normal form. "Sorry if i startled you. I didn't expect to catch someone from shibusen off guard with my gunfingers." The look on Moranas face made Mal wonder if she was trying to suggest anything. However, Mal debated revealing the fact that he was in search of a partner. He thought it would be fairly obvious since they were both new to shibusen and he had assumed as much of her.
The sun began to sink below the horizon as the bleeding moon began to raise. Now that the glare was almost gone, Mal lowered his hood before putting his hands into his jacket pockets. Mal had yet to be annoyed by the girl so for the sake of curiosity he attempted to prolonge the conversation. "So I'm guessing by your reaction you don't have much experience being around weapons?"

M O R A N A As she exhaled, her cloud of breath dissolving in the frigid air, Morana watched Mal's hand change back to normal, and began to wonder what makes a Demon Weapon a Demon Weapon in the first place. Hm. Probably just genetic. The girl heard Mal speak again and she looked up from his hand just as he finished. He had the upper hand here, seeing as she was legitimately surprised and yes, startled by the hand transformation. She wanted to force a bit of her bitchy side out to recover from it, but this time she decided to stay cool. "Yeah, you did startle me a bit there."
Morana stood up a little straighter and brushed a few unruly strands of hair from her face. " I've only seen a transformed weapon one other time, and I've never really witnessed a weapon partial transformation before." Morana thought hard for a moment. How can I follow this up? As the sky got darker still and the sun's big, sleepy face faded below the horizon, Morana said, "I'm aware, though, that all weapons have partial transformations."
Morana's voice was a bit more regal now; a bit more scholarly. There was no way in hell that she would get anywhere close to being the girl who doesn't know anything and needs to be taught. She was gonna show her new acquaintance that she wasn't completely knowledge-less on the subject of weapons. Even though she wasn't very confident in her knowledge, she'd say whatever she could to come off as strong and smart, which she definitely was, but she was just afraid of anyone thinking otherwise.
Morana reached her cold hands up to her shoulders, her arms crossed over one another, and began to rub her upper arms. She looked around, looked back to Mal, and said, "Hey, Mal, it's getting pretty cold out here. I'm gonna head back to the student housing area pretty soon. Where do you live, anyway?"

Mal listened to the girls response. "So she really is new to weapons. My guess though is that she has read a lot about them." Mal began to sense the girl as a bit of a know it all but it didn't really bother him. Listening to the girls response made him picture her wearing glasses that she would quickly push up her nose whenever she made a know it all remark. And this image he found humorous.
She also seemed to be at least somewhat confident in herself and that was a quality he found pleasing. He had always liked to be around someone who was confident in what they were saying; as long as they weren't overly confident to point that they were annoying.
"Hey, Mal, it's getting pretty cold out here. I'm gonna head back to the student housing area pretty soon. Where do you live, anyway?"
Mal to had begun to feel a slight chill, even through his warm jacket, and the idea of heading back was beginning to sound better and better. He then began to think about his room in the student housing and how, he had neglected to unpack a single box. "I suppose I'm going to do the same. It is getting a bit chilly." Mal said as he once again put his hood over his head. It is not like he could think of anything else to do at this point anyway "And I guess a technically have a room in the student housing building. Although you wouldn't know anyone lived in there from looking at it."

M O R A N A Morana, her relatively bare legs getting a little numb now that the sun had gone, watched as Mal put his hood back up over his head, and she wished she had brought a jacket along too. I guess I didn't think I'd be out here this long. She had determined that Mal was trustworthy. Plus, there was a lingering thought in the back of her mind: She didn't have a partner yet, and she was excited to start training with a weapon.
She wondered what kind of weapon his full form was, but didn't bother to ask just yet. She assumed that he wouldn't want to be barraged with questions after they had just met. I'm glad to have met this guy though. He seems pretty decent. Maybe he'll be of some use in the future. Morana put her hands back into her shirt sleeves as she had done while sitting on the swing and she prepared to turn and walk to the park's exit.
Morana heard Mal speak, and after a brief pause to take her hands out of her shirt sleeves, rub them together a few times, and put them back, she said, "Yeah, I didn't think I'd be hanging out here this long. Didn't think I'd be needing a jacket." She looked over to where the exit was, and responded to Mal's comments on his living space. "Oh really?" She turned back to him. "And why is that?" The wind picked up a little and some more stray pieces of her bright teal hair blew over her eyes. She tossed her head to move them so she wouldn't have to remove her hands from the small amount of warmth from her sleeves.

It had become fairly obvious to Mal that Morana was colder then he was. He no longer sought to prolong the conversation in the cold anymore then he had to but he now had a idea of a way to have some fun and to test the girl. Mal Reached into his pockets grabbed a pencil and paper that he luckily had on him.
He then turned with his back to Morana and told her. "Just because the only thing in there is a bunch of unpacked boxes from." While he was talking he quickly removed the pencil and paper, wrote on it, folded it up and then slowly slipped it into his own right jacket pocket. The note reads "Room 068".
He then took off his jacket, turned and tossed it to Morana. "Don't misread this, You just obviously need it more then I do right now." Mal said with a laugh before walking off towards the nearest restaurant. His stomach had decided it had its own agenda before sleep would be allowed. While still within ear shot Mal turned his head back towards morana while still walking away and yelled out. "I'm sure we will run in to each other again soon. I'll get my jacket back on our next encounter."
"I wonder how she will react to this." Mal thought to himself as he disappeared into the distance.

M O R A N A Morana eyed the boy suspiciously as he turned his back and seemed to be doing something. She didn't even notice him reach into his pockets. The girl tilted her head a bit to the side and listened as he spoke. This guy was much weirder than she had anticipated. He was doing something strange. "A bunch of unpacked boxes, huh. Well I guess that makes sense. You said you've only been here for three days, right?
Just as Morana finished her sentence Mal tossed his jacket to her. She reacted quickly and caught it with ease. It was warm. "Don't misread this" huh? Okay. This is a friendly thing, I can understand that. I'm a bit creeped out, but I guess this just means he's nice., Morana thought as she looked down at the white jacket.
Mal yelled out to her, and she looked up as he was walking away. He was definitely strange. Nice guy, yeah, but strange. Morana raised an eyebrow at his "I'm sure we'll run into each other again soon" comment, and yelled back to him, "A-alright! Thanks!" She waited for a few seconds in a state of almost disbelief as he continued on his way, and then she slipped the jacket on and put her hands in the pockets. Her hands were glad to receive the warmth... but she felt something in one of the pockets.
Morana pulled out the small piece of paper and opened it as Mal disappeared from view. "Room Zero Six Eight," she read aloud. She folded the piece of paper back up, put it back in the pocket, and lifted the hood of the jacket over her head. The moon was rising higher now, and all of the little lights from the city began to blink on. Morana turned to the exit of the park and started back towards the student housing building.
Mal gave me his room number. I suppose he expects me to pay him a visit soon. Morana smiled at this thought, knowing that she would be able to ask him some more questions. She was secretly growing more eager to see what his complete weapon form looked like.
