A bunny was running rabid in Deathbucks. It was big, and fluffy, and so cute it was almost criminal. For the most part, no one seemed to take notice of it, mainly because it was a relatively normal thing, because the owner worked at the shop. Or, rather, sat and looked cute. He did that same thing in a few minutes that an attractive woman could do in a hour, which was attract attention. A childish looking teenager with a bunny was a darn site more cuter than an attractive woman, and thusly, more socially acceptable and less awkward.
Ashley Shaw, however, didn’t know that. He simply watched Locco lop around the shop, sniffing peoples shoes and nibbling on their jeans every now and again. With big, bright green eyes, Ashley watched and smiled, talking with customers every now and again. Sometimes he’d just be left alone, swinging his feet and drinking another chocolate frappacino and humming happily to himself.
Outside the window, No.5 sat, still as stone and hunched over like a vulture. The machine had planted itself beside a tree, and was intent on staying there until her master commanded her to. She got odd looks from people who did not understand. Ashley would talk to her now and then, and offer her a bit of his drink, but when the metal golem remained silent, he shrugged and went back to his drink. No.5 was an ominous background object, the thing groaned every now and again, and shuffled as so to stay in the shape. Getting to hot would mean that she would shut down, and she’d have to get cool before she would activate again and return to her masters side.
Ashley wondered if No.5 would like to move on. To wander down the street and stretch her short, metal legs for a bit. In many ways, Ashley treated No.5 like a dog. He took her out for annual walks and patted her when she wasn’t too hot. She was good company, but sometimes it got lonely. A giant walking golem wasn’t a substitute for a walking talking human being. It took a lot to admit, but he got lonely. Especially at work when Nova wasn’t there to cheer him up.
