So far, the day wasn’t too bad for Rick. Sure, the hot desert weather did suck, but then after three years, he had gotten used to it. Besides, the heat of the Mojave didn’t stop Rick from having a good time in Biology. His day in math also went well for him. But the best part was that after he got done with lunch, he’d have computers, followed by gym. Best part was that he had brought some pizza, a couple of cans of Mountain Dew Voltage, and a nice bag of chips along for lunch.
While others waited in the lunch line, Rick was allowed to move onto the microwaves. Thankfully, only two or three people were there, and it wouldn’t be long until Rick got a shot at heating up his pizza. Even better, the stuff they did have to microwave didn’t take longer than two minutes each. And before he knew it, Rick popped his slices of pizza, covered with a paper towel, into the microwave and quickly heated them up for about a minute.
After taking his pizza out and putting it onto a new paper plate, the Demon Chair walked towards a table, the rest of his lunch clutched in hand. Eventually, he found one vacant end of a table, the used end being occupied by a small group of friends, talking amongst themselves. They didn’t seem to notice nor did they object to Rick sitting at the other end of the table. The yellow-eyed boy placed his plate onto the table, and unloaded one of the cans from the bag he carried his lunch in.
As Rick cracked open his blue drink, he could hear the group conversing amongst themselves. Their conversation centered around going to some concert for some band Rick didn’t give a rat’s ass about. They still didn’t seem to notice the Demon Chair. And if they did notice him, they didn’t seem to mind the fact that someone was just drinking a Voltage, while eating a slice of meat-coated pizza.

Alyssa had spent most of the day in classes; that was all she ever seemed to do these days but she supposed it kept her mind occupied. She tried to keep up with the teacher's coursework and into taking everything in, but she still had a little bit of trouble adjusting. She was just sort of glad that the teacher hadn't picked on her at all today, the first few days her teacher had called upon her to read or answer something. She had become a bit flustered and didn't know the answer or stumbled to read at first. A few giggles echoed through the room and she felt even more shy. She had a fear that he would pick on her again but as she exited the classroom he called to her and asked if everything was okay, that she was adjusting alright. She nodded and smiled, just wanting to head to lunch though she supposed it wasn't any better than the classroom itself.
As she headed into the lunch room, everyone else had already filed in and had filled up most of the tables. She waited in the lunch line since she didn't have much of any food at home and they provided her free food here as long as she kept up her coursework and everything. Deciding on a ham, cheese, lettuce and tomato sandwich along with an apple and some pudding she began to head towards somewhere to sit. Her eyes looked around as she stood there in the middle of the cafeteria looking for somewhere to sit. Most everywhere was taken but she saw an empty seat across from a boy with blue hair with a group sitting at the other end. She decided to approach it and stood across from where the boy was sitting. Looking down shyly she asked, "Do you mind if I sit across from you?" she asked him, her voice soft. It would be a wonder if he heard her over the noise of the cafeteria.
If he said no, maybe he was waiting for someone and was saving the seat for them, then she'd find somewhere else in the cafeteria or go somewhere else in the school entirely. She could be a bit pessimistic at times. She waited patiently; noticing that he had a slice of pizza and some Mountain Dew. She then remembered that she had forgotten to get a drink and almost went back to get it but continued to stand there waiting for his reply.

As Rick listened in on the conversation, he could feel himself getting more impatient. Rick was thinking of just whipping out his MP3 player to drown out the sounds of the cafeteria. Hell, he hadn’t seen Cin or Ymir all day. And frankly, this conversation would end up sparking some serious rage about today’s bands. And as usual, it would get him nowhere.
However, before he could even consider the thought, a girl approached him. Brown hair, reddish-brown eyes, and a black school uniform. "Do you mind if I sit across from you?", asked the girl softly. He could just barely hear what the girl had to say. The girl seemed to be shy, what with looking down while talking to him, and speaking so damn softly. Rick didn’t immediately answer due to chewing down his current bite of pizza and swallowing it. The girl was still standing there, patiently awaiting his answer. “Knock yourself out.”, he finally told her, his tone being one of someone who didn’t really seem to mind or care if someone sat across from him.
He hadn’t seen this girl around during his time at Shibusen. Either she was a newbie, or she was one of those students who he hadn’t somehow run into. If she were a newbie, then it would’ve been understandable as to why she was willing to sit with one of the more troublesome students in the school. Why else would someone who seemed so damned shy bother sitting with him? That, or she probably wasn’t as shy as she looked, and it was either just a first time thing, or just an act.
Still, the group of students at the other end of the table didn’t seem to notice the two. However, the fact that someone was sitting near him, probably expecting some form of conversation would probably put a damper on things. Rick continued looking at the girl for a moment, his yellow eyes locked on her. “Name’s Rick. What’s yours?”, he asked the girl, attempting to initiate a conversation between them.

The girl was about to move away from the table and go find somewhere else to sit, if there was actually anywhere to sit. If not she would probably find somewhere outside to sit; alone. She supposed she needed some interaction with some of the students here, well outside of class that was. She'd been assigned to work with some students in class for short in class work, but she hadn't spoken with any of them outside class and faintly remembered their names. She was taken a bit back when the boy had finally answered, stopping her in mid turn as she was able to turn to walk away. He told her to knock herself out, which was an unusual reply. She would have probably said sure, or please or something along those lines. And, the tone in his voice seemed like he didn't care whether or not she did. Placing her tray on the table she sat down on the bench that was in front of the table and placed her book bag beside her.
She was silent for a moment as she wasn't sure how to reply to his answer about her sitting across from him. However he soon proceeded to introduce himself as Rick. She looked up from underneath her red-brown locks of hair that fell across her face. Her head was a bit lowered but she sat pretty ladylike, her back was straight and not slumped over. She tried to come up with something to say but was a little bit why about it. She felt like a bit of a outsider and newcomer here, somehow she felt different than everyone else here. But, she soon spoke to introduce herself, "Alyssa, Alyssa Hart. But, feel free to call me Alyss," she said to him, a small, faint smile on her lips. She looked into his strangely colored yellow eyes that cause her to look away a bit as her glance looked upon them.
"Thank you for letting me sit here..." she added, not knowing whether or not he even really cared if she thanked him or not or that it was perhaps just common courtesy to let someone sit in a place that was empty. She then proceeded to unwrap her sandwich, slowly pulling away at the cover with delicacy. Folding back one corner then the next until it revealed her sandwich. Anyone else might have just ripped it apart. However, she didn't take a bit of her sandwich yet. Only moments after she opened it she picked up half of the sandwich since it was cut in half and took a small bite from it. Atfer chewing a bit she swallowed and started to speak again, "A-are you a Meister or a Weapon?" she asked him. She was new to the whole weapon and meister thing so she wasn't sure if it was a common question to ask, or if people just knew what someone else was. She looked over at him a bit with anxiety since she wasn't good at conversating with others.

While Rick was finishing his current bite of pizza, the girl was about to turn away. Just so he could get his answer in, he had to rush that last gulp. And for a moment, it was caught in his throat. While he could still breathe, it was putting pressure on the area. After answering her question, he frantically gulped down some of his soda, which washed down the food for him.
For a moment, there was silence between the two. Rick looked at her as her head was hanging down. In combination with the chatty group nearby, it unsettled Rick. When he finally introduced himself to the girl, the girl looked up at him. For a moment, there was an awkward silence. "Alyssa, Alyssa Hart. But, feel free to call me Alyss", the girl said to him, thankfully breaking the silence, and pretty quickly for what she seemed to be.
"Yeah, I'll just call ya Alyss. . .", he told her, taking yet another swig of his blue soda. He watched as she averted her gaze from his yellow eyes. But then, he didn't seem to care, and in reality, he was used to it. Even looking in the mirror could tell him that his eyes were really creepy looking.
"Thank you for letting me sit here...", added the girl. "Don't mention it. . .", he said to the girl, his own way of saying 'you're welcome.'
While the girl unwrapped her sandwich, Rick continued to attack his slices of pizza. Hell, how many pieces did the kid bring along? Four, that's how many. Everyone knew that Rick was a very big eater, and if he could, would've brought a whole pizza with him to lunch. But then, what are you going to do with a fast metabolism like his? In combination with his physical activities, his metabolism is why he managed to stay as thin as a rail.
"A-are you a Meister or a Weapon?", asked the girl, stuttering in the process. For a moment, Rick was still chewing his current bite of pizza. After he swallowed down the food, he looked at her again. "Weapon.", he answered. However, if the girl was looking for a partner, she wouldn't find one, unfortunately. Rick was an Electric Chair, a weapon what would have no purpose being wielded, unless you count punting someone into the seat as wielding it.
"What about you?", he asked her.

She smiled a bit as he said that he would call her Alyss and as she thanked him for letting her sit here he seemed rather casual about the whole thing. Maybe, Alyss was being a bit uptight about everything here. It was just everything here was so new, even though she had been here a few months she still wasn't used to it all. She hadn't interacted much with others here, though her teacher had pushed her some to joining groups and speaking up. He'd made her answer a few things in class and one time present something in front of the whole class, though she knew that they were all laughing at her because of how shy and quiet she was. She kept to herself usually, but perhaps she should start being a bit more social. As she thought about this she had unwrapped her lunch and took a bite of her sandwich after asking the boy, Rick, a question.
She looked up at him as she waited for him to reply, glancing a bit at her sandwich before looking up at him again as he answered her. Weapon. She wondered what kind of weapon he was, though he probably had a partner by now or something, not that she was going to outright ask him or that she was looking for one.. sure she did kind of need one and hadn't met wavelengths with anyone thus yet though she hadn't tried all that hard and was still recovering a bit from depression. Not that anyone really knew that, her teachers did and they were a bit lenient though she noticed recently they started pushing her more. Meister.." she said, holding her gaze onto his odd colored eyes. Staring at them for a moment before her red-brown orbs looked away and she picked at her sandwich. "Though.. I wonder if---" she then shook her head, becoming a bit shy and not wanting to bother him about her worries. And then she started to say something else instead, "But.. I'm pretty new to this whole thing," she said as she looked down at her sandwich but did not eat it. She had become not hungry anymore.
"Um, how long have you been here if I may ask?" she asked him, looking up again at him.

The girl smiled in response to him calling her Alyss. But then, there had been people who protested or just frowned upon being called their shortened names. Hell, if they didn't like being called by a nickname, then why did they throw it out their. Doormat or not, if they don't like it, they should either leave it out, or tell them not to fucking do it. Hell, it would be a reasonable, no-bullshit way for Rick not to call them that, unless he felt like trolling them. Thankfully, as with most he had encountered at Shibusen, she seemed to prefer being called by her shortened name.
After a moment, Alyss answered his question. "Meister..". Alyss replied to him. The Demon Chair looked at the brunette again. While it didn't matter to him, he was still interested in who she had partnered up with, if anyone. Hell, what kind of weapon they were, how she fought, what kinds of battles she had fought all been subjects that were of interest to him. If she was a newer student like he had assumed, then it was a fifty-fifty chance. But still, Rick had seen many people get hooked up with partners over the past three years he had attended the Academy. However, if she didn't have a partner, then once again she might be disappointed if she had asked.
"Though.. I wonder if---", she started before stopping herself, shaking her head. Rick wondered what she was going to say before she just cut herself off. "But.. I'm pretty new to this whole thing", she told him instead. "If you had a question, I'd think you should ask. Shit, you never know if that answer will save your ass in the long run.", he said to the petite female, his colorful vocabulary finally rising up in the conversation. If you were a newbie, questioning more experienced students around here was a good thing. It could mean the difference between surviving to tell the tale, or getting slaughtered by the prick you were hunting down. Some of the answers he had gotten had saved his life on several occasions, especially when confronted with the Dark Wire, Garrison Slitz.
"Um, how long have you been here if I may ask?", asked the girl, looking at him once again. "This if my fourth year here.", he told her. "How about you? How long have you been here?", he asked her, just to be safe. This would be where his suspicions were either confirmed or debunked. Hell, for all he knew, she could've been here for a couple of years without having found a partner or having seen any action. But then, the chances of that were unlikely.

Alyss glanced up at Rick as he said that if she had a question she should ask. Her cheeks started to turn a bit pink as she looked down at her sandwich, staring at it. However, she didn't really feel like eating much at the moment. And, what she was going to say to him was only her doubting herself. Maybe why she was so shy was because she never opened up to anyone yet. She just kept everything inside, she did have the counselors who checked on her constantly but that wasn't the same as opening up to another student. And, it wasn't an answer she was really looking for with her question. Alyss seemed to look down for the longest of time, lost in her own thoughts at what Rick had said.
However, she looked up again as he answered her question about how long he had been here. She set her sandwich down and placed her hands on the table, intertwining her fingers. However, she began to fiddle with them. "I've..only been here a few months. I'm still sort of settling in, adjusting to everything." she said to him, meeting his yellow eyes but soon looking down again. "I-I just don't think I'm cut out for this Meister stuff...." but she'd rather stay here than go back home where there was nothing for her. She shifted her head down, her bangs covering her eyes as she felt a bit ashamed of saying that; she hadn't even really tried that hard. It was just with everything that had happened and her depression...
But, maybe this was the first time she'd really opened up and actually talked with another student here. "I'm sorry I don't want to burden you with my own problems..." she said, then moved to stand up and take her tray with her. Maybe, she'd find a place outside to sit alone again. She was so stubborn and shy about opening up to others. She kept her head low as she started to walk away, wondering if he'd just let her go or if he'd try to get her to stay. Though if he did, she might finally maybe have a friend here.
