This isn't a requirement for roleplaying here by any standard, just something that people will find useful. In most RP communities it's considered good manners to make your character's profile readily accessible to the people you're roleplaying with, and the easiest way to do this by far is to link it in your forum sig.
Some people struggle with forum code, and it's understandable why. Typically they just don't know how, or it seems too complicated. But links can be made very easy if you know the right steps, which I'll walk you through right here.
A completed link code will look something like this:
And, when applied, will do this:
The code breaks down into a few logical steps. First we have our framework, the parts that read as [ url = ] and [ / url ] (ignore the extra spacing). These are the "bookends" of your link code -- remember that word, bookends, and the image it evokes. They are the 'what' of the code; now we add the 'where' and 'how' parts.
[ url = ] is meant to contain the 'where', the URL of the thread you want to link to. You copy this directly from the URL bar at the top of your browser, the long string of stuff that starts with http://. Make sure to copy ALL of it! Place the URL into the code immediately after the = sign and before the ] sign. You're halfway there, and the hard part is now over.
What's left is the 'how', or rather, the displayed text of your link. This goes between [ url = ] and [ / url ] and is what people will see when they look at the link in your sig. Generally something simple like the character's name or even just the word 'profile' is good enough to do the job -- you can add image code instead of text if you know how, but if you're not sure how then just keep it simple and go with text.
So, in conclusion:
And that's how ya do it. Any questions?
