ATTENTION SoV!

Quite a lot has been going on these last few weeks -- new features, new positions on and off staff, a few rules edits, good stuff by and large. But there are some definite ways that we, as a forum, can improve! And so I'm starting two new opportunities -- "bounties", if you will -- for everyone to contribute... and, of course, get rewarded for it!

FORUM SKIN

Our current skin was assembled and implemented by the now-departed (not in that sense; she just left) Sowilu -- some like it, some don't, but by and large everyone agrees that it's good for a forum to change up its look every once in a while. So I'm putting out a "bounty" on forum skins: whether its one you find or make yourself, generic or seasonal, we're looking for new looks to look at. Members who provide links to useable forum skins (and, preferably, a demo forum to see what they actually look like) will be rewarded with 500 Points if the staff decide to use it on SoV.

What We're Looking For: Complete forum skin codes, including color settings if at all possible. Please also link back to any source sites and required files.

What We're Not Looking For: Links to other forums with the intent of "we should look like that!". That's not very helpful, honestly.

ADVERTISING

Our Affiliate Mod Morri has done a fantastic job of linking SoV to a growing web of affiliates and sister sites -- this is good, as it brings in fresh faces and interest occasionally, but I believe we can do a bit better. This "bounty" is two-fold: one for advertising SoV, and one for bringing in new members.

As you may know, we currently have a Shades of Vertigo forum ad; this will be updated in the coming days to reflect how we've grown and what we offer, as well as a version formatted for InvisionFree boards. To collect on this bounty you simply have to post the new ad in another RP forum's advertising section. Bounty price: 25 Points a pop. Note that this only counts for forums that we aren't currently affiliated with and / or don't have the new ad posted already; old ad is fine, though, but not on affiliated sites. Spend an hour or so on this and you could collect a tidy sum for the character of your choice.

To collect on this bounty simply post in this thread with a link to each ad you posted. To identify the posts as yours, put your main username at the bottom of the post! This is the ONLY way we'll know who posted what -- don't forget it!

Also, if the forum you posted on has almost no posts / no activity within the last two months, staff can decide not to grant you the bounty. Don't play that way playa.

This next one is tricky, as versions of this have been abused on other forums in the past. We're putting up a bounty for recruiting new members... HOWEVER the newcomer must (A) mention the person who brought them to SoV in an introductory post AND (B) be active with us for at least a month before you can collect the bounty of 150 Points. If they go inactive for part of the month and don't return within a reasonable time frame or never come back / decide to leave, no bounty. If the person posts but never makes a character or RPs, no bounty. And if the staff suspect that you might be "farming" using fake IPs and aliases, no bounty -- that, and you probably will be banned, too. So don't game the system.

This bounty can also be collected by posting here. Remember: only authentic, active members will be counted. Members who prove themselves solid recruiters will also be given preference if applying for staff positions/

I would like to help with it, since I feel a bad member since I can't even seem to have the right muse and time to post with Kate. If it is okay, just spam post with the kind of layout, and maybe images you want me to use and I'm sure I can make it. Just as long I don't get a deadline ^^'.

Err. Here are just the preview sites/images the people have uploaded for their forum skin codes. If any of these end up being used, just tell me which one and I'll grab the codes from the sites and post on the creator's thread with a notice that we're using it, etc.

EDIT: Orias made a suggestion that we could do a clown + Asura eyes theme for background graphics, so that it's a more refreshing kind of way to communicate that we are a Soul Eater site.

Isn't Night Life too dark? Or that's what I was told when I suggested it a while back...

But I agree with Morri on REBORN;; DARK SKIN if we can get the information on the other side of the board so it doesn't cross over the main section.

Seconding Nova, actually, on maybe modding the colors to make it lighter. Maybe even a lot lighter.

Maybe to make this clearer, what are everyone's preferences based on? Just keep in mind that if you like everything EXCEPT the color, we can always change the background and color scheme to our tastes. If the site layout is what you like about it, I think it'd make more sense to keep that instead of going around looking for sites with colors we like first and site layout second after that.

Right now I'm leaning towards Reborn: Dark Skin for the information layout, site structure. It just looks different enough from what we have now to be a nice, refreshing change, but the same information is there in easily accessible sidebars (maybe make the font bigger, change the color of the bar to make it more visible, etc). I also actually like that it'd go from having a banner to having a background graphic.

I'd hope for the new skin to maintain the way we have links to different parts of the site on top so that the home page isn't this ridiculously long BLARGH, but I'm optimistically assuming that's just a matter of inserting whatever coding into the new skin?

Going for a lighter skin would seem a lot more refreshing, and per Orias's suggestions for a clown + Kishin eyes graphics theme here are a few more POSSIBLE BG patterns we could go for. Suggestions are appreciated, as always, since I don't know what to try to look for if no one tells me. Or we could entirely forego a a patterned background, I don't know.
